Les Ms. & Friends Sing for Care

In 2006, Les Ms. spearheaded a fundraising concert of inspiring choral music by singers who care, in support of those who need care. Now about to sing it's 13th Annual Concert, the event has successfully raised approximately $150,000 through the generous participation of many local personalities and choirs.  Beyond this were other Sing for Care concerts, two in Clarenville and one in Gander, in which those communities also showed their support.

Originally offered in partnership with the CIBC Run For the Cure to raise money for breast cancer research, all concert proceeds are now used to support the Patient and Family Support Fund of the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation right here in Newfoundland and Labrador. This fund assists patients and their families who are experiencing financial hardship as a result of cancer diagnoses.

Newfoundland and Labrador is very geographically dispersed and patients must often travel long distances from rural and remote regions to St. John's in order to get the treatment they need. Travel, accommodation and meal costs can add up very quickly, while patient are receiving treatment away from home.

"Funds raised from Les Ms. and Friends Sing for Care are in support of the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation’s Patient and Family Support Fund which supports financially challenged cancer patients who require assistance with treatment-related expenses such as travel, meals, accommodations and the purchase of prostheses.  From 2008-2013, the Foundation disbursed over $684,200 to 2,700 cancer patients and their families in Newfoundland and Labrador.
It’s because of generous donors such as Les Ms that we are able to provide this level of support.
The Cancer Care Foundation is grateful to be associated with such a wonderful group who does so much for the community. "

As one patient expressed, "Knowing there are people who understand, made the burden lighter". That is truly something to sing about!

Sing for Care 2019

Thank you so much for all the support you showed in making Sing for Care 2019 a success.  We were thrilled to raise over $7,000 at the Sunday evening concert.  Adding some donations that came in later we were able to write a cheque to the Bliss Foundation, bringing us to within over  $166,000 over the years that we have been holding this benefit.

We are grateful to you, our wonderful audience, and to Holy Heart Alumnae Choir, Let's Make a Choir 2019, and the Holy Heart Chamber Choir, and Lakecrest Chamber Choir for being part of the event this year.

Thank you so much to everyone who made Sing for Care in Clarenville such a success.  Les Ms. and Friends were able to raise $3000 for the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation Patient and Family Support Fund.

From a rehearsal that ran like clockwork, to an evening arrival where our wonderful (and very well dressed) Chamber Choir men brought in another 100 chairs, to a performance with voices of such sweetness they filled your heart with uncontainable joy. The music selected spoke of love, hope and perseverance. The generosity and attentiveness of our audience pushed us all to perform at our best. Particular thanks to the 4 music educators without whom this would not have been a reality.
