Valerie Long Ph. D.

Valerie Long founded the female vocal ensemble Les Ms. in 1999. Born and educated in Newfoundland, Valerie holds undergraduate degrees in Music and Music Education from Memorial University of Newfoundland. She has also received a Masters of Music in Choral Music Education and a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Valerie's extensive experience as an educator includes instruction in classroom, choral and instrumental music from Kindergarten through high school and university. She has performed the roles of music director and pianist for numerous musical theatre productions and has earned a reputation for being an engaging and highly respected adjudicator, clinician, guest conductor and performer.

In 2008, Valerie was awarded Music Educator of the Year, from the Music Industry in Newfoundland and Labrador. In 2010, she received the Founder's Award for achievement in the arts from Holy Heart of Mary High School.

Among her many activities, Valerie also directs the Holy Heart of Mary Alumnae Choir who tour extensively throughout the world.
